Wet vs. dry mineral processing — which maximizes recovery?

Quarry and mine buyers often face this route choice before they buy screens or slurry pumps. Both paths are valid; the trade-off is water infrastructure versus fine-particle recovery.

Wet processing

Water-media wash plants and slurry circuits recover fines more reliably on clayey feed and many iron / sulphide streams. Wet decks plus sand wash modules raise saleable sand yield, but need slurry-pump wet ends, water recycling and geotech approval for settling ponds.

Dry processing

Air classifiers and dry screens avoid water infrastructure — preferred in arid pits and sites with no discharge permit. Recovery on sticky fines is weaker; dust control and screen-media blinding become the governing limits instead of slurry flow.

Metso maps wet-screen + slurry-pump packages only when site water and abrasion duty are known; dry circuits stay on vibrating screens and air classification until a wash plant brief exists.
